Defending champion Rafael Nadal has reached the French Open quarter-finals for a 10th time by beating Jack Sock in four sets.
Waiting for the Spaniard in the last eight will be world number one Novak Djokovic.
Nadal was dominant in the opening set as he broke Sock three times on his way to closing it out 6-3.
The nine-time champion was even more irresistible in the second, keeping his opponent at arm's length with some ferocious hitting from the baseline before coming through 6-1.
Nadal looked to be on the verge of victory when he served for the match at 5-4, but Sock won the next three games with some bold tennis to snatch the set 7-5 and give the world number seven some food for thought.
A cagey fourth set started with Nadal breaking Sock in a lengthy third game, and from there the champion broke again to secure a 6-3 6-1 5-7 6-2 triumph with nearly three hours on the clock.
