Ernests Gulbis progressed through to round two of the Monte Carlo Masters thanks to a 4-6 6-2 6-3 victory over American John Isner this evening.
It appeared that Isner was heading for a routine victory when he won the opening set thanks to a single break of Gulbis's serve.
However, Gulbis, who was only able to compete at the tournament following Tommy Haas's withdrawal, responded by breaking Isner twice during the second set, thus forcing a decider.
Gulbis continued his domination in the third set and as a result he was able to book his place in the next round with one break of serve.
He will now take on Argentina's Juan Monaco for a spot in round three.
