Nicolas Almagro has avoided an upset in the second round of the Paris Masters by seeing off world number 47 Albert Ramos in three sets.
Both players dropped one service game each in the opening set, but Almagro came through the tie-break 7-1 with little difficulty.
However, Ramos levelled the contest against his fellow Spaniard by taking the second on a tie-break 7-4.
World number 12 Almagro saved five break points in the third before he broke to take a 5-3 lead. He then served out the match to set up a third-round encounter with sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
