Roger Federer has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters after a 6-4 6-4 victory over Lucas Pouille.
After a fairly even opening period, the Swiss veteran broke serve when both players were at 3-3, before dominating the ensuing game and securing the first set without too much difficulty.
Pouille, just 20 years of age, matched Federer in the early stages of the second set thanks to a powerful serve, but again, Federer broke serve with the set at 3-3, despite two unforced errors.
From then on, it was plain sailing for the 33-year-old, who sealed the victory by chasing up a deep serve and passing Pouille with a neat half-volley.
Federer will face seventh seed Milos Raonic in the next round of the competition.
