The French world number 92 saw off the Slovakian 7-6(2) 6-4 at Queen's Club on Monday afternoon.

Murray, who has been given a bye in the opening round, won the tournament last year before going on to secure glory at Wimbledon.

The Brit recently announced that two-time Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo will be his new coach for the grass-court season.
