The Frenchman got the first break of serve to go 3-1 up in the opening set, and then maintained his form to complete a 6-3 success.
The second set was similar, although both players failed to make the most of break points.
However, Gasquet again broke his opponent in the seventh game. He then held serve and secured the win with his one and only match point.
