Nicolas Almagro has booked his place in round two of the Shanghai Masters thanks to a straight-sets win over Japanese qualifier Go Soeda.
Both players failed to drop a service game during the opening set, but it was the Spanish 15th seed who eventually came through a close tie-break 7-5.
However, it was more straightforward for Almagro in the second as he broke Soeda twice before closing out the match 6-2.
He will now face Jeremy Chardy for a place in the third round.
