Rafael Nadal has been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in the third round.
The Spaniard - the current world number two - was defeated in straight sets by Germany's Florian Mayer.
The first set was hard-fought, eventually won by Mayer on a 7-5 tiebreak, but the second proved to be an easier affair for the world number 23, who took it 6-3.
Nadal's defeat leaves Andy Murray as the top seed in the competition and paves the way for him to secure another title in Asia, following his double win in Japan last week and victory in Thailand the week before.
Mayer now goes on to face either Tomas Berdych or Feliciano Lopez in tomorrow's quarter-final.
