Heavy rain forecast forces US Open postponement

The US Open women's semi-finals, featuring Serena Williams, Roberta Vinci, Simona Halep and Flavia Pennetta, are postponed until Friday due to heavy rain forecasts.

The women's semi-finals at the US Open have been postponed due to forecasts of heavy rain.

The matches will now take place at 11am local time (4pm BST) on Friday following poor weather in New York.

Serena Williams, pursuing a calendar Grand Slam, will face Roberta Vinci at Flushing Meadows after second seed Simona Halep meets Flavia Pennetta in the other last-four match.

The men's semi-finals will take place after the conclusion of the women's matches at 10pm BST.
