Emma Raducanu is expected to be fit for this year's Wimbledon after undergoing scans on the side strain she suffered at the Nottingham Open.

British number one Emma Raducanu is expected to be fit for Wimbledon despite withdrawing injured from the Nottingham Open on Tuesday.

The latest in a long line of injury woes for the US Open champion saw her forced to retire from her first-round match with Viktorija Golubic on the grass during the first set.

Fears of the possibility of Raducanu missing out at Wimbledon were immediately raised after she also withdrew from the Guadalajara and Italian Opens earlier this year with fitness woes.

However, BBC Sport reports that Raducanu has not sustained a serious injury following scans, but the side strain will rule her out of the upcoming Birmingham Classic.

"It was disappointing to go out this week with a side injury and unfortunately I will no longer be able to play in Birmingham. I'm looking forward to being back on the match court soon though to enjoy the rest of the grass season," the publication quotes Raducanu as saying.

The 19-year-old memorably progressed to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year before retiring from her match with Ajla Tomljanovic with breathing difficulties.

Golubic added to her walkover win against Raducanu by eliminating Heather Watson in Wednesday's second-round match, while Harriet Dart's meeting with Camila Giorgi has been suspended due to rain.

Dan Evans and Ryan Peniston also advanced to the quarter-finals on Wednesday, with the former beating Thomas Fabbiano 7-5 6-0 while Peniston defeated Borna Gojo 6-4 7-6.
