Juan Martin del Potro has booked his spot in the third round of Wimbledon courtesy of a 3-6 6-3 7-6 6-3 victory over Stanislas Wawrinka on Friday afternoon.
The Argentine made his return to Wimbledon on Tuesday following a three-year absence and three operations on his left wrist, and was given a standing ovation after overcoming Wawrinka on Centre Court.
It was the Swiss that took the opening set 6-3 courtesy of one break of serve and five holds, but Del Potro answered back with a break in the second and five holds of his own to level the scores at 1-1.
Each player lost their opening two service games of the third set, but both steadied to force a tie-break and Del Potro claimed a 7-2 victory to move ahead in the match.
World number five Wawrinka managed to steady himself and hold his opening three service games of the fourth set, but Del Potro broke at 3-4 before serving it out to cap an emotional match on Centre Court.
