Richard Gasquet wins five-set Wimbledon contest

World number 11 Richard Gasquet outlasts James Duckworth in their five-set encounter at Wimbledon.

Richard Gasquet won through 6-7(3) 6-3 3-6 6-0 6-1 against James Duckworth to book his place in the second round of Wimbledon this afternoon.

Twenty-two-year-old Duckworth, who was appearing at SW19 for the second time in his career, claimed the first set on a tie-breaker, but Gasquet rallied next time out to level up proceedings.

Australia's Duckworth responded positively, though, and one break of serve in the third set resulted in him regaining the initiative.

However, in the final two sets, world number 11 Gasquet dropped just one game as he sealed his spot in round two.

Gasquet's best performance at Wimbledon came back in 2007 when he reached the semi-finals.
