Graham Poll: 'Watford penalty should not have been given'

Arsenal should not have had a penalty awarded against them in their 2-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday, according to former Premier League referee Graham Poll.

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll has claimed that Arsenal should not have had a penalty awarded against them in their 2-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday.

Hector Bellerin conceded the spot kick in the second half after a collision with Richarlison, although subsequent replays appeared to show minimal contact.

Troy Deeney duly fired home the equaliser after Per Mertesacker had put Arsenal in front in the first half, before Tom Cleverley popped up with an injury-time winner for the Hornets.

"First time through at full speed, it didn't look right to me, my gut feeling was it was not a foul," Poll told BT Sport.

"It's deception. There's no contact, he throws his legs out, that's a clear dive. The FA will need their review panel to look at that. There should be a two-match ban coming."

Arsene Wenger described Neil Swarbrick's decision as "ridiculous" and "scandalous" following the game at Vicarage Road.
