Barcelona are keen to extend the contract of Belgium centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, according to a report.

Barcelona are reportedly keen to extend the contract of Belgium centre-back Thomas Vermaelen.

The 32-year-old struggled with injuries during his first three seasons at Barcelona following a move from Arsenal in the summer of 2014.

The centre-back has made 16 appearances for the Catalan giants this season, however, and impressed alongside Gerard Pique in defence while Samuel Umtiti was on the sidelines.

Vermaelen's current deal with Barcelona will expire at the end of next season, but according to Sport, the Spanish outfit are 'very happy' with the Belgian's performances and are keen to extend his contract.

Vermaelen has scored once in 16 appearances for Barcelona during the 2017-18 campaign.
