Preview: Bragantino vs. Coritiba - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Brasileiro clash between Bragantino and Coritiba, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bragantino will be looking to claim their second successive home victory when they welcome newly-promoted Coritiba to the Estadio Nabi Abi Chedid for their Brasileiro Serie A clash on Wednesday.

The visitors, meanwhile, are yet to claim maximum points away from home this season and are hoping to avoid a fourth successive league game without a win.

Bragantino extended their winless away run to four matches when they played out a 1-1 draw against Cuiaba on Saturday.

Artur put the visitors in front in the 17th minute but a penalty converted by Andre in the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time restored parity for the hosts, who eventually held on to claim a point.

Mauricio Barbieri's side are experiencing a poor run of form across all competitions, as they have won only one of their last 11 games, a 1-0 win at home to Flamengo earlier this month.

Bragantino are now nine places and nine points worse off than at this stage of last season as they currently sit 11th in the Brasileiro Serie A standings with 14 points, just two points above the relegation zone and three behind the top six.

The Sao Paulo-based outfit have failed to win any of their previous seven meetings with Wednesday's opponents Coritiba, including a goalless draw in their last encounter against them in December 2020.

Coritiba's three-game unbeaten run came to an end on Sunday when they suffered a 2-0 home defeat against league leaders Palmeiras.

Strikes either side of half time from Dudu and Rony put the visitors into a comfortable lead, before Coritiba's half-time substitute Thonny Anderson was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Rony in the 72nd minute.

Gustavo Morinigo's side have now won only one of their last five Brasileiro Serie A games but they are still sitting inside the top seven, just three points behind the automatic qualification spots for the Copa Libertadores.

The Glorioso have failed to win any of their five league games on the road this term, but they have won three and drawn one of their four away meetings against Bragantino, scoring at least twice on three occasions.

Team News

Bragantino's Luan Candido celebrates scoring their first goal on June 9, 2022© Reuters

Bragantino will be without midfielder Emiliano Martinez and forward Carlos Eduardo due to respective Achilles and muscle injuries.

Left-back Luan Candido is, however, available to return from suspension and is expected to replace Ramon in the first XI, joining Aderlan, Leo Ortiz and Natan in the back four.

Artur, Bruno Praxedes and Helinho are all set to start again in advanced roles behind central striker Ytalo, who has scored only once in his last nine appearances across all competitions.

As for Coritiba, Anderson is suspended, while Alex Muralha (hand), Matheus Alexandre (thigh) and Andrey (ACL) are all sidelined with injuries.

Striker Leo Gamalho, who has scored four times in seven games, is also ruled out with a calf problem, so Adrian Martinez is set to retain his place in attack.

Morinigo could switch from a back five to a four-man defence, with may see full-backs Nathan and Guilherme Biro start along with centre-backs Henrique and Luciano Castan.

Bragantino possible starting lineup:
Cleiton; Aderlan, Ortiz, Natan, Candido; Jadsom, Ramires; Artur, Praxedes, Helinho; Ytalo

Coritiba possible starting lineup:
William; Nathan, Henrique, Castan, Biro; Andrey, Farias, Val; Manga, Martinez, Paixao

We say: Bragantino 1-1 Coritiba

Coritiba have had plenty of success in head-to-head encounters with Bragantino, but we expect to see a closely-fought contest played out on Wednesday.

Both teams will be looking to return to winning ways although we can see the spoils being shared on this occasion.
