Fernandinho laments Brazil's "harsh" World Cup exit

Fernandinho laments Brazil's "harsh" semi-final defeat to Germany after the hosts crashed out of the World Cup in a 7-1 loss.

Fernandinho has expressed his sorrow following Brazil's "harsh" heavy defeat to Germany, which ended their hopes of reaching the World Cup final on home turf.

The hosts were humiliated as Joachim Low's side romped to a 5-0 lead before the end of the first half, and eventually sealed their victory with a 7-1 hammering of the Brazilians.

After suffering one of the heaviest defeats in World Cup history, Fernandinho has insisted that he and his teammates need to overcome their loss in order to perform in the third-place playoff in Brasilia on Saturday.

"I think we're all aware that it was an 'impossible' result," the Manchester City midfielder told SporTV. "This match will be remembered forever.

"The atmosphere is not very good after a defeat like this, not good at all. Our dream has ended in a very harsh way. We need to have personality, raise our heads and try and live with this."

Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari was without injured Neymar and suspended captain Thiago Silva for yesterday's encounter.
