David Luiz: 'Failure not an option for Brazil'

Brazil defender David Luiz says that his teammates have to fulfil the country's expectations by delivering the World Cup.

David Luiz has told his Brazil teammates that failure to win the World Cup on home soil is not an option.

The host nation could move one step closer to claiming a sixth world title by beating Colombia in tonight's quarter-final clash in Fortaleza.

Luis Felipe Scolari led the Selecao to glory in the 2002 edition of the tournament, and Luiz is enthused that the coach has the necessary pedigree to win such a competition.

"We need to win, that's our life. All the Brazilian people are expecting it; we have to deliver," he told The Times of India.

"But, we have a manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari, who has won it and done it before and that helps. He has been fantastic for us."

Victory tonight would see Scolari's side face either France or Germany, who square off at 5pm this evening, in the semi-final stage.

Brazil's encounter with Colombia kicks off at 9pm.
