Celtic hold on to victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Celtic defeat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-2 in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have beaten Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-2 at Celtic Park to keep the pressure on Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.

Mikael Lustig headed into the back of the net from Stefan Johansen's free kick after just eight minutes.

Four minutes later, Leigh Griffiths doubled the lead from close range.

Liam Polworth and Iain Vigurs both had chances to pull a goal back, before Griffiths was twice denied before the half-time whistle.

Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo's long-range shot was saved by Craig Gordon in first-half stoppage time.

Nir Bitton and Johansen were both denied by Owain Fon Williams shortly after the restart, but Stuart Armstrong directed the ball into the top-left corner in the 54th minute to seal the deal for Celtic.

Armstrong then added a fourth in the 69th minute when he directed the ball into the bottom-left corner.

The travelling Caley fans finally had something to cheer in the 71st minute when Ryan Christie netted from 10 yards.

Dani Lopez then added a second from long range to set up a nervous final 10 minutes for Celtic.

However, the Bhoys held on to earn their third Scottish Premiership win of the season.
