Mason Mount is reportedly in line to make his first start for England against Czech Republic at the expense of Chelsea teammate Ross Barkley.

Mason Mount will reportedly make his first start for England against Czech Republic at the expense of Chelsea teammate Ross Barkley on Friday.

The 20-year-old, who worked with Frank Lampard on loan at Derby County last season, has impressed for the Blues since returning to Stamford Bridge over the summer, scoring four goals in eight Premier League appearances.

Mount was included in the England squad for September internationals against Kosovo and Bulgaria, coming on as a substitute, but Barkley started both games ahead of him.

According to The Telegraph, Mount's performances since the previous international break have impressed Gareth Southgate, who will use the attacking midfielder from the start in Prague.

Southgate's assistant Steve Holland was present to watch Mount produce an impressive performance and score a goal during Chelsea's 4-1 win over Southampton on Sunday, while Barkey was an unused substitute.

The England boss believes that Mount has a strong on-field telepathy with West Ham United's Declan Rice, also set to start this weekend, due to the pair growing up at Chelsea together before the latter was released at the age of 14.
