Jackson Martinez hopeful of Colombia progress

Jackson Martinez calls on his Colombia teammates to prove that they are better than Uruguay when they meet in the second round of the World Cup.

Colombia striker Jackson Martinez has called on his teammates to prove that they are better than Uruguay in their second-round clash at the World Cup.

The South Americans meet in Rio de Janeiro tonight, with the winner making it through to the quarter-finals.

Despite insisting that Colombia are "superior" to Uruguay, Martinez wants his side to show the world that they deserve to progress.

"I believe Colombia is superior to Uruguay, but we need to show that on the pitch. It will be a big rivalry and now they will increase their battle to beat us," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Uruguay is a very difficult opponent and we will have to concentrate and be focused if we are to reach the quarter-finals. We know Uruguay's strengths and they know about us, so there will be little surprise or advantage for either team."

Martinez scored two goals for Colombia during the group stage to help the finish at the top of the Group C standings.
