Tony Pulis: 'Liverpool comeback sums up Crystal Palace's season'

Tony Pulis feels that the character Crystal Palace showed in coming from behind to draw against Liverpool epitomised the commitment that they have shown all season.

Tony Pulis has insisted that the three-goal comeback against Liverpool on Monday epitomised the character that Crystal Palace have shown in avoiding relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Eagles were bottom of the table and seemingly doomed for the drop when Pulis took over in November, but have since recovered to secure their top-flight status for next year and climb to 11th place.

Pulis stressed that the commitment and effort shown by the club's players and fans throughout this campaign had never been more evident than in the final 12 minutes at Selhurst Park, as Palace came from 3-0 down to draw in London and put a major dent in Liverpool's title ambitions.

The Welshman always felt confident that his team could score against a Reds defence that has conceded more goals than them this term, and praised everyone associated with the club for making it happen.

"At half time, even before the game started, we thought we could score goals against them," he told Sky Sports News. "The important thing was trying to keep a clean slate, because they play so open. They almost play the numbers game in that they think they are going to score more goals than you. You know you are always going to get opportunities and chances against them.

"I think they have played very open all year, they have played a lot of games where they have conceded goals, twos and threes. I thought in the first half we did some good things but the quality in the final third was very poor, we let ourselves down and gave them the opportunity.

"All in all, I think it's summed our season up - the effort and commitment of the players has been backed up by the effort and commitment and total support from the terraces."

Palace finish the season with a trip across the capital to already-relegated Fulham on Sunday.
