Bryan Oviedo to miss rest of the season

Everton defender Bryan Oviedo suffers a metatarsal injury and will not feature again in the 2014-15 season, manager Roberto Martinez confirms.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed that injury-hit defender Bryan Oviedo has been ruled out for the rest of the season after breaking his metatarsal.

The Costa Rica international, who has managed just six Premier League games since breaking his leg in January 2014, suffered his latest setback in training.

"He knew straight away he'd done something bad. It took him a couple of hours to get his head around it. Mentally he's in a good place now," Martinez told reporters at a press conference.

"It's incredible bad luck. His ankle rolled in a bad position. It's just unfortunate and he is going to be out for the rest of the season, and miss games with Costa Rica in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

"It's another blow for him. But it's a lesson with the mental strength he has. He's the one who is leading the rehab and will count the days down until he comes back. We're going to support him and get a stronger player back. It's been an unfortunate period since Stevenage. He should be back stronger for pre-season."

The 25-year-old joined the Toffees from Copenhagen in 2012.
