Wolfsburg ease past Dusseldorf

Wolfsburg win only their second Bundesliga game of the season, as they defeat Fortuna Dusseldorf 4-1 away.

Wolfsburg have moved off the foot of the Bundesliga table with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Fortuna Dusseldorf away from home.

After a relatively uneventful first 45 minutes in which Bas Dost and Naldo both had chances on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors the lead, the match burst into life in the early minutes of the second half.

First Dost put Wolfsburg ahead in the 50th minute when he turned in Ivica Olic's cross from close range, and three minutes later Olic himself found the target to make it 2-0.

The visitors scored their third goal of the afternoon on 64 minutes when Makoto Hasebe shot home from very close range.

However, Dusseldorf were given the chance of staging a comeback with 20 minutes left on the clock when they were awarded a penalty.

Olic's challenge on Oliver Fink saw the referee point to the spot, and Jens Langeneke made no mistake from 12 yards.

Ronny Garbuschewski and Nando Rafael came close for the hosts in the following few minutes, but all hopes of securing a point vanished on 77 minutes.

Fink brought down Diego inside his own area and was promptly dismissed, with the Brazilian playmaker himself slotting home the resulting spot kick to wrap up a 4-1 win for Wolfsburg.
