Didier Deschamps: 'Victory over Germany would be historic for France'

Didier Deschamps believes that France can play without pressure as they look to make history against Germany on Friday.

France manager Didier Deschamps has claimed that victory over Germany in the World Cup quarter-final would be a historic moment for the national team.

Deschamps, who captained France to their World Cup triumph in 1998, admits that edging out Joachim Low's side is a big test for his men, but he believes that the current squad can play without pressure.

"We have played a very good World Cup and we will have a major opponent in Germany who is used to these situations," Deschamps told reporters. "They always seem to get to the quarter-finals, semi-finals or final so are more experienced.

"The fact that you are in the French team means you have duties and responsibilities and the spirit has been very high since the beginning of our preparation period.

"There is no pressure on the players, history is what has been and gone and tomorrow we will maybe write a new page in history."

The winner of the meeting in the Maracana will meet either Brazil or Colombia in the semi-finals.
