Jason Puncheon thrilled by Anfield win

Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon hails the team's focus following their 3-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Crystal Palace winger Jason Puncheon has hailed the team's "belief and character" following their 3-1 win away to Liverpool.

The Eagles ruined Steven Gerrard's last game at Anfield on Saturday as they left Merseyside with the points.

Puncheon drew the visitors level with a free kick before Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray sealed a comfortable victory for Alan Pardew's side.

"It was belief and the character that secured that result," he told the club's official website. "Obviously it was a big game for Steven Gerrard but for us it was just another game that we wanted to try and win and we did that.

"Gerrard is an inspiration. When I was a kid I used to watch him play and I would try and do what I could to try and get close to him. For me it's brilliant to be on the same pitch as him.

"It's a big honour to get the man of the match award on his final game at Anfield, it's great to come off there with the award on this special day."

Puncheon, who has scored six goals this season, recently signed a new long-term deal with Palace.
