Sergio Aguero targets Blackburn Rovers fixture for return

Sergio Aguero reveals he is close to a return to the Manchester City squad, targeting this week for his comeback.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that he is close to a return following an injury layoff and could even feature against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.

The Argentine, who suffered a calf injury in last month's 6-3 victory against Arsenal, has given manager Manuel Pellegrini a boost by announcing that he will be fit this week.

"I'll be ready for action this week," Aguero, who scored 19 times in 20 appearances before his injury, told his official website Sergioaguero.com.

"My injury is improving slowly. Recovery's going very well. I'm back to sprinting on the field and moving the ball around.

"I'll be fully recovered by the Cardiff game and depending on how the week's training goes I may be able to show up for a few minutes on the second leg against Blackburn for the FA Cup."

City are currently top of the Premier League following their 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park.
