How Manchester City could line up against Norwich City

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for their Premier League clash with Norwich City on Sunday.

Manchester City will end their 2019-20 Premier League campaign on Sunday when they welcome already-relegated Norwich City to the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the season.

City's runners-up spot is already confirmed and the club will be playing in the Champions League next season after their proposed two-year ban was overturned, so the final-day clash with the Canaries holds little significance for the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola will be desperate to avoid any long-term layoffs before City welcome La Liga champions Real Madrid to Manchester for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in August, and the Spaniard's infamous rotation could strike again for the visit of Norwich.

There are a still a couple of individual records on the line for Guardiola's men, though, and that will surely come into the City manager's thinking when he sets up his side for the final round of Premier League fixtures.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Man City could line up for their final-day showdown with Norwich.

Guardiola only has two confirmed absentees to contend with for the final day, with South American duo Sergio Aguero and Claudio Bravo both on the treatment table.

Aguero could be back in time for City's Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, but Gabriel Jesus will continue to lead the line in the absence of the prolific Argentine.

Jesus is set to be supported by Raheem Sterling, who needs one more strike to hit the 20-goal mark for the league season, and Riyad Mahrez, who will be hopeful of coming back into the fold after being named amongst the substitues against Watford.

Kevin De Bruyne recorded his 19th assist of the season in City's 4-0 victory at Vicarage Road in midweek, and the Belgian playmaker will want to be given the full 90 minutes as he looks to surpass Thierry Henry's assist record.

De Bruyne has set up 19 goals this season - one adrift of Henry's 20 in the 2002-03 campaign - and the clash with a depleted and already-relegated Norwich side represents a prime opportunity for De Bruyne to etch his name in the history books and dethrone Henry as the Premier League's assist king.

De Bruyne will most likely be partnered in midfield by Ilkay Gundogan and the veteran David Silva, who is set to play his 309th and final Premier League game for the Citizens before departing in the summer.

In defence, Joao Cancelo is expected to move to the right-hand side of defence in place of Kyle Walker, allowing Benjamin Mendy to come in at left-back. The Frenchman is suspended for City's Champions League second leg with Madrid and is therefore expected to feature from the first whistle here.

Fernandinho is also an option in the heart of defence to partner Aymeric Laporte, but 19-year-old Eric Garcia has enjoyed consistent game time following the resumption and could be handed another start on the final day.
