Anthony Martial: 'I do not want to be on the bench'

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial tells manager Jose Mourinho that he wants a more regular starting role following his match-winning cameo against Tottenham.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has told manager Jose Mourinho that he does not want to be on the bench following his match-winning cameo against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Martial replaced Marcus Rashford 20 minutes from time and went on to score the only goal of the game at Old Trafford, latching on to Romelu Lukaku's flick before finishing past compatriot Hugo Lloris.

The goal was Martial's fourth as a substitute already this season, but he acknowledged that the form of Rashford will limit his own starting chances.

"The manager told me to find space. I know that Lukaku is good with his head and I found the space and scored," he told Sky Sports News.

"We lost the last game. It was important for us to win and I am happy to score. Me I want to play. I don't want to be on the bench. Rashford has been good too and the manager wants to give us a chance."

Martial has started just three Premier League games this season, failing to score in any of them.
