Bayern Munich have initiated discussions with the agent of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes regarding a potential summer transfer, according to a report.
Fernandes has been a standout player for the Red Devils since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.
In what was largely considered a poor 2023-24 season for United, the Portuguese midfielder managed to contribute an impressive 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
The 29-year-old was also instrumental in the side's victory over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, where he set up Kobbie Mainoo to score United's second goal of the match en route to lifting the trophy.
Given his consistent performances, Fernandes has been attracting significant interest ahead of the opening of the transfer window, and it appears that the Bavarians are the latest to signal their interest in the Portuguese star.

Bayern Munich open talks to sign Bruno Fernandes in the summer
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Fernandes's agent Miguel Pinho met with several European clubs last week, including Bayern Munich, over a potential summer move for the 29-year-old United skipper.
The report adds that Barcelona are also keen on securing his signature and may initiate negotiations in the near future, while there have also been links with a possible move to Saudi Arabia.
Bayern recently unveiled Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel's successor and it is understood that the new boss is eager to bolster his squad following the German giants' disappointing season.
Despite Harry Kane's impressive goal-scoring record since his arrival in Bavaria, Bayern finished a rare campaign without a trophy.
Fernandes has already commented on his future amidst rumours of a potential departure, emphasising his commitment and eagerness to compete for trophies with the Red Devils.

European giants set to battle for Fernandes' signature
The Portuguese international's current £240,000-a-week contract is set to expire in June 2026, although United have the option to extend that term by a further 12 months.
Therefore, a move for Fernandes will likely require a significant offer from the interested party, which could pose a problem for Barcelona, given their current financial constraints.
Bayern, though, are believed to have the necessary financial resources to pull off a transfer for the United captain while also offering him Champions League football, which the Red Devils cannot, having failed to qualify for Europe's elite cup competition next season.
Much of Fernandes' future at Old Trafford could depend on the club's decision over whether Erik ten Hag will remain in charge of the Red Devils next season.
The Dutchman has been a strong backer of the Portuguese midfielder over the last two seasons and awarded him with the captain's armband at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
Since joining Manchester United in January 2020, Fernandes has made 233 appearances, scored 79 goals and provided 66 assists in all competitions.
