Michael Carrick: 'No talk over new contract'

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick reveals that there have been no talks of an extension to his current contract, which runs out at the end of the season.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has revealed that there have been no talks over a new contract at the club.

The 34-year-old's current deal comes to an end this summer after he signed a 12-month extension before the start of the current campaign.

Carrick has made 17 league starts under Louis van Gaal this season, and is hopeful that he will be kept on for a 10th season at Old Trafford.

"I am not sure yet, to be honest. I haven't heard anything just at the moment. Hopefully [I will] sometime soon. I have been here a long time, I have had some great times here and I love the club. It's a great place to play," he is quoted as saying by PA.

"Playing games like [the Manchester derby], it keeps you having that buzz and enthusiasm to play for longer, so we will wait and see what happens. I have still played a lot of games, but you just accept that when you come to a certain age you can't literally play every game or full games.

"That is just part of it. It's not something that I have worried about at all. It's the same for everyone. A lot can change between now and the summer. There are some big games and you have got to be consistent. That is how it goes."

Carrick has made 412 appearances for United since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
