Roberto Martinez: 'Eden Hazard recovering well from ankle surgery'

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez reveals that Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard is "recovering well" from his ankle surgery and "will be back soon".

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has revealed that Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard is "recovering well" from his ankle surgery.

The 29-year-old went under the knife in the United States last month following another setback in what has been an injury-plagued debut campaign at the Bernabeu.

However, the suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic has limited the number of games he has missed during his latest absence, and Martinez has confirmed that the former Chelsea attacker is close to being able to run again.

"I know he is recovering well. He is not far from running again and there are no complications," Martinez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Everything went well with the operation, but you also hope that everything goes well in the four to five weeks afterwards without complications, and there were none. We know he will return stronger. We were also fortunate, of course, to have his surgery take place just before the coronavirus outbreak.

"Otherwise he would not be able to travel or be treated outside of Madrid. I have a positive feeling that Eden will be back soon."

Hazard has been limited to just 15 Real Madrid appearances since joining the club from Chelsea in a deal worth up to £130m, scoring one goal.
