Real Madrid have moved to within a point of league leaders Barcelona with a 4-0 win at Espanyol.
The visitors were 1-0 up at the break when Gonzalo Higuain slotted home after Cristiano Ronaldo's threaded pass had put him through on goal.
The Argentine scored his second of the match midway through the second half when he lashed the ball high into the top corner from inside the box.
Former Espanyol defender Jose Callejon put the game out of reach on 82 minutes after Ronaldo was again the provider.
Higuain secured his hat-trick with a minute to play when he chipped a neat finish over the keeper.
