Hungary 0-0 Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland finish their Euro 2012 preparations with a 0-0 draw against Hungary in Budapest.

Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 preparations ended with an uneventful 0-0 draw against Hungary at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium tonight.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni named the same side that he expects to face Croatia in Ireland's tournament opener next week, with duo John O'Shea and Shay Given passed fit to start following injury concerns.

Both players were involved early in proceedings as O'Shea narrowly headed over a Damien Duff cross while Given kept the game goalless with a pair of fine saves.

The Aston Villa stopper firstly kept out Balazs Dzsudzsak with a diving low save before he denied the same player with another smart stop moments later.

Stephen Hunt, Darron Gibson and Jonathan Walters were among the second-half substitutes but none could help the Republic break the stalemate in Budapest.

Stoke forward Walters came close but he saw his effort parried out to Simon Cox, another second-half replacement, who was also denied by Hungary goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.

The visitors had Hunt to thank for keeping the scores tied late on as he was on hand to clear Imre Szabics's effort off the line.
