Rickie Lambert: 'Southampton aiming for seventh'

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert says that the team are looking above them in the Premier League table.

Rickie Lambert has said that Southampton are looking above them in the Premier League table.

The Saints sit eighth in the table ahead of this weekend's games, just three points behind Manchester United.

The striker told the club's website: "We've managed to get into eighth and now we're looking a seventh, and if we can get there then we'll be looking at sixth.

"If we finish eighth it's still been a great season, but the situation of where we are now we're not going to settle for that. We're going to try and push on, and if we can play Manchester United in the last game of the season with a chance of overtaking them, then that's some season, and it would be one hell of a game.

"For me personally, it's been one of those seasons where it's been hard to come by a goal. Things have changed and we're playing differently, but you know me I'm never one to make an excuse, I've been disappointed with the chances I've missed this season. I've missed a few and that has frustrated me, but there's still a few games to try and rectify that, and that's all I look at, I don't try dwell on it too much."

Southampton travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow afternoon.
