Tottenham Hotspur on brink of extending Jan Vertonghen deal?

Tottenham Hotspur are to trigger a 12-month extension in centre-back Jan Vertonghen's contract, according to a report.

Jan Vertonghen is reportedly close to being offered a new one-year deal to keep him at Tottenham Hotspur until the end of next season.

The 31-year-old is due to be out of contract with the Lilywhites in the summer and was recently linked with a move away from North London.

Speaking after last weekend's shock 2-1 loss at Watford, though, Vertonghen confirmed that Spurs have the option to extend his terms by a further 12 months, which he expects them to take up.

According to The Sun, the announcement of a new contract being awarded is close to being made, likely fending off any interested suitors.

Vertonghen has featured in every minute of Tottenham's opening four Premier League games of the season.
