Gary Cahill: 'England cannot rely on Harry Kane at World Cup'

England defender Gary Cahill says that Harry Kane's "fearless mentality" will serve his side well at the World Cup, as long as other players chip in with goals.

Gary Cahill has admitted that England need Harry Kane to be in peak form ahead of next year's World Cup, but his side cannot simply rely on the striker to score the goals.

The Tottenham Hotspur ace netted the only goal of the game against Slovenia on Thursday night to take his tally to 14 in 12 games for club and country so far this season.

Kane revealed after the match at Wembley Stadium that he is desperate to continue scoring at his current rate, but Cahill has sounded a note of caution as he believes that it will be dangerous to over-rely on one player.

"He's been fantastic for us, but you don't to go into a tournament with everything on Harry Kane," he told reporters. "We want him to be in fantastic form, but we want everyone to contribute. Going into the tournament, we want everyone to have the kind of confidence he's showing at the minute.

"The fearless mentality. That's the way he is at the minute. At this moment in time I see him being one of the best in the world in terms of form. He's at a fantastic age and his finishing is unbelievable.

"He must be gushing with confidence. He must feel like he's going to score every time he takes the pitch. Not even one [goal], it's like, 'How many am I going to get today?!' He must have that kind of mentality."

Kane now has four goals in World Cup 2018 qualifying for England, two more than next-best duo Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana.
