Jack Butland has insisted that he is not just in the England squad to make up the numbers.
Joe Hart has established himself as the number one goalkeeper between the posts for the Three Lions after making his senior international debut in 2008.
However, Butland, who has made one senior international appearance, has revealed that he is keen to put some pressure on 52-capped Hart.
"Joe is a long way ahead in terms of experience. I want to try and close that gap. It's great for me to be here, but ultimately I look to put pressure on Joe and get some games," the Stoke City keeper told reporters.
Twenty-two-year-old Butland featured for the England Under-21s on 28 occasions.
