Sunderland manager David Moyes: 'TV deal hiking up prices of players'

Sunderland boss David Moyes says that the Premier League's £5 billion TV deal has hiked up prices in the transfer market.

Sunderland manager David Moyes has blamed the Premier League's lucrative TV deal of hiking up prices of footballers in the transfer market.

England's top flight will receive £5 billion this season for selling television rights, meaning that the league's participants will receive a hefty chunk.

Because of that injection, though, Moyes, who took over as Sunderland boss nine days ago following a failed spell at Real Sociedad, believes that clubs around Europe will raise their asking prices for players.

"I remember last year at the end of my time in Spain I was taking a couple of trips into France to see some games," Moyes told reporters.

"I bumped into a lot of the sporting directors and they were all looking forward to the British clubs coming with their money.

"The prices have gone up with the extra money. It's suddenly become quite difficult to value a player, where his pitch is."

The Black Cats are yet to sign any new faces this summer, but Moyes confirmed today that he is interested in recruiting Manchester United pair Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj.
