British number one Andy Murray has remained upbeat despite his early exit at the Rogers Cup.
The 26-year-old fell in straight sets to Latvia's Ernests Gulbis, but he has refused to press the panic button.
Murray believes that it will take time for him to get back to his best after his Wimbledon exploits, and said that his goal is to hit full throttle in his defence of the US Open.
"You can't expect to play perfect straightaway - it takes time," Reuters quotes Murray as saying.
"I was playing a very good player today - someone that gives you very little rhythm on the court, but I actually thought I hit the ball better today than yesterday.
"The goal is to try and peak at the US Open, but to do that you need to make sure you prepare yourself well and obviously I would have liked to have done better here. All I can keep doing, is trying to keep improving every day. Hopefully by the time the US comes around, I'm playing my best tennis."
Murray beat Marcel Granollers in his first match.
