Emma Lonsdale has revealed that she and her Team GB teammates feel secure in their village in Sochi ahead of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The Russian government is on high alert due to the threat of a possible terrorist attack, and has committed a large amount of security into the region to ensure the protection of everyone involved in the Games.
Lonsdale told the Westmorland Gazette: "We're in the most secure area and as far ago as last February security measures were in place for the locations I'll be in.
"We've not been warned by the British Olympic Association not to go so there is no reason to be overly concerned.
"We've all worked very hard for the last four, eight, ten years – our whole lives really. We've been assured we'll be in very secure areas with every measure taken to prevent any problems."
The United States government has recently warned airlines over the possible threat of toothpaste bombs being smuggled aboard aircraft flying into Russia.
