Team Scotland's Callum Skinner has acknowledged that it will be tough for his team's men to win a cycling medal at the Commonwealth Games.
None of the host nation's riders got through to the final of the individual sprint this morning, with Australia and New Zealand dominating proceedings at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
Aussie Matthew Glaetzer was particularly impressive in qualifying with a Commonwealth Games record of 9.779s, and Skinner admitted that such performances made it hard to expect a medal.
"Everybody wants to go and get a medal, but it's difficult. The Kiwis can come along, the Aussies can come along with incredible pace - and they do have incredible pace," Skinner told Sports Mole.
"We saw that today. As much as everyone says that Glasgow is a fast track, it isn't generally a fast track - and the air pressure is quite high so no-one really expected a 9.7. All credit to the guy. That's why you can't really put your ambitions out on the line because you never know when something like that can happen."
Skinner, Jonny Biggin and Chris Pritchard will compete for Scotland in the team sprint this afternoon.
