Sam Allardyce rejects Arsene Wenger's calls to scrap work permit rule

Sam Allardyce says that he completely disagrees with Arsene Wenger's stance that the work permit rule on foreign players should be scrapped.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce is against Arsene Wenger's view that the rule regarding work permits for foreign signings should be changed.

The Arsenal manager recently claimed that the "attractiveness" of the Premier League would disappear if the relevant authorities continue to make it difficult for foreign players to join English clubs.

"I don't agree with that at all," Allardyce told reporters. "There's already a massive influx of foreign youth coming to academies and us losing the opportunities for young British players to take up those places.

"[Scrapping the work permit rule] for me, as an Englishman, is a real no-no. I'm sure Arsene, if he was working in France, would have a similar opinion to me.

"Protect your own. We very rarely do it in this country and haven't done it up until now. We've got to do it somewhere along the line and get more British players through."

Wenger has encountered visa issues trying to sign Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista.
