Mikel Arteta: 'Three options on the table for future'

Arsenal's Mikel Arteta reveals that he is considering "three very different options" regarding his future, including the possibility of staying at the Gunners as a coach.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has revealed that he has "three very different options" on the table regarding his future in the game.

The Spaniard revealed after the Gunners' 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday that he is 99% certain to be retiring from playing this summer, with a move into coaching expected.

Arteta has been linked with roles at Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but he also hinted that he has been given the option of staying on at the Emirates.

"It is very unusual to have opportunities at this level," he told reporters.

"As well, that made me think it was probably time (to retire) and the way I have been watching football in the last few months - or probably over a year - it was not as a player, it was more as a coach. Then you have to think about it.

"I have been left the door very open (at Arsenal) and I may have to make a decision. I don't want to say clubs but I have three very different options and I am very proud because it is not common."

Arteta also said that he was choosing to leave Arsenal in a playing capacity as he no longer feels that he is good enough to represent the club.
