Aston Villa have reportedly moved a step closer to the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain attacker Marco Asensio.
The 29-year-old has struggled for game time at Parc des Princes this term for the French champions, meaning that a move away is in the offing at this stage.
Asensio has started just eight Ligue 1 matches for Les Parisiens, scoring twice and providing four assists for teammates during that period.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the cogs are beginning to turn in the process to bring the Spaniard to Villa Park before the 11pm deadline.
The report claims that the temporary move of Cher Ndour to Fiorentina from Paris has opened up a loan spot in the plans of the French champions.
As a result, Asensio is now free to complete his switch to Unai Emery's Champions League-competing Villans for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
The attacker made a name for himself at European champions Real Madrid, playing 286 matches for Los Blancos during a seven-year period from 2016 and 2023.

Ipswich closing in on Championship goalkeeper?
Staying in the West Midlands, it appears that West Bromwich Albion are set to lose one of their first-team stars before the end of the winter window.
As per Sky Sports News, goalkeeper Alex Palmer has attracted interest from Premier League outfit Ipswich Town, who are targeting improvements in that area of the pitch.
The report states that the Tractor Boys are expected to pay an initial £2m for the services of the shot-stopper, with the deal potentially rising to £4m.
It is understood that the 28-year-old is on his way to East Anglia to complete a medical, with the goalkeeper set for his first-ever Premier League switch.
Palmer will join former Baggies starter Conor Townsend at Portman Road, with the left-back settling for an existence on the top-flight bench compared to regular minutes at The Hawthorns.

Fulham fail with swoop for Roma star?
Finally, it is believed that Fulham are scrambling for an alternative defensive reinforcement following the failure to bring a Turkish star to Craven Cottage.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Zeki Celik will not be linking up with Marco Silva's Cottagers in the Premier League during the second half of the campaign.
It is understood that the Italian giants have snubbed an offer from Fulham for the 27-year-old, who operates on the right side of defence.
The Cottagers are expected to be without the services of right-back Kenny Tete until late February, with the Dutchman picking up a knee injury in December.
