Patrick Vieira: 'Arsenal can't win ugly'

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, who now works with Manchester City's elite development squad, believes that the Gunners' inability to win ugly could hamper their title bid this season.

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has suggested that the Gunners' inability to win ugly could hamper their title bid this season.

The Gunners have not won a trophy since 2005 when Vieira scored the winning penalty in an FA Cup shootout win over Manchester United in Cardiff.

However, the Londoners believe that their silverware drought could end this season, as they currently lead the Premier League by five points.

Vieira is now on the coaching staff at Manchester City and will welcome his former club to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking about the Gunners ahead of the clash, Vieira told reporters: "When you look at Arsenal, they play fantastic football.

"But sometimes you need to win games playing badly, and I don't think Arsenal are capable of that at the moment.

"Maybe there is a lack of leadership - they don't have a Tony Adams, Martin Keown or Sol Campbell. These are players who can be leaders on or off the field."

City are currently six points behind Arsenal in fourth place.
