Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen downplays concerns over his fitness after picking up a knock during last weekend's 2-0 win at Liverpool.

Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen has downplayed concerns over his fitness after picking up a knock during last weekend's 2-0 win at Liverpool.

The Gunners skipper was spotted with his ankle strapped up during a training session with the Belgian national team, but has assured fans that he will not be sidelined upon his return to England.

"It is fine, it just my ankle from last week - but it is okay," he told Sky Sports News.

Arsene Wenger's side are the only Premier League team yet to concede a goal, keeping clean sheets in their opening three matches.

The Gunners are next in Premier League action on September 15, when they take on Southampton at home.
