Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that Robin van Persie deserves 'respect' from the Gunners fans when Manchester United host the North London outfit at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on the club's supporters to show Robin van Persie 'respect' when he comes face to face with his former club on Saturday.

The Gunners go head to head with the former Premier League champions for the first time since Van Persie made the controversial switch to Old Trafford from the Emirates last summer.

"I hope he gets a respectful [reception]," Wenger said in a press conference. "We campaign against discrimination, it should not be different this week.

"Saturday is not about him [for us]. It is about getting a result. I am not surprised he has been a success [at United]. He makes intelligent runs."

Arsenal currently sit six points below the Red Devils in the league table.
