Arsene Wenger: 'Man City, Barcelona tried to destroy my work'

Arsene Wenger claims that Manchester City and Barcelona have tried to "destroy" his work at Arsenal.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has claimed that clubs such as Manchester City and Barcelona have tried to "destroy" his work at the club.

The Frenchman has been with the Gunners for 16 years, winning many plaudits for his style of football throughout the years.

Wenger also said that money has nothing to do with his decisions, only his vision and philosophy. The 62-year-old revealed that he has rejected many opportunities with lucrative contracts so that he could stay at Arsenal.

"I could move to clubs for more than 10 times [the amount of money] but I didn't do it," he told De Telegraaf.

"[I've had] 16 years at Arsenal and I stay here because of my philosophy and vision.

"Money is not my motivation and that's also the way for [Johan] Cruyff at Ajax and [Wim] Jansen at Feyenoord."

Wenger admitted that he has been left frustrated watching his young stars, such as Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, leave the Emirates when they could have won trophies had they stayed.

"Sometimes people try and destroy your work," he said.

"I lost Nasri, Clichy and Fabregas at an age when they could have made the difference for Arsenal."

Arsenal have already signed Lukas Podolski this summer, with a deal for Olvier also expected to be completed as Wenger looks to strengthen his squad.
