Arsene Wenger praises Wigan's performance in their loss to Arsenal, saying that it will boost his side's confidence.

Arsene Wenger has said that Arsenal's win over Wigan Athletic this lunchtime will give the team a boost in confidence.

Mikel Arteta scored a penalty in the second half to give the Gunners a 1-0 victory, which moves them up to third in the Premier League table.

The Arsenal manager told Sky Sports News: "It was a difficult game but that will give us belief and confidence. They went for us and it's a good result.

"They stopped us from playing. We weren't as fluent and sharp as Monday. They had great desire.

"They are in the wrong position in the table. They have a very good midfield and their full-backs did very well."

The loss leaves Wigan in the relegation zone.
