Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal's victory over Wigan Athletic was a big win for his side.

Arsenal vice-captain Mikel Arteta has revealed his delight at beating Wigan Athletic in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Spaniard scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to secure the Gunners a 1-0 win at the DW Stadium.

The North London outfit move up to third in the table, and Arteta is pleased with his side's recent form.

"I think [Wigan] have been unlucky with the result because the way they play is quite offensive," said Arteta.

"It's a big win for us, that's three in a row now.

"I am really happy with the points. It's been a tough game, the conditions were really difficult."

Arsenal host Newcastle United next Saturday.
